Our biggest residential install to date. This garden needed a full makeover, it’s nothing crazy however there were a lot of components when creating this garden. In addition to that, the installation of this garden took us over 4 weeks to complete. There have been ups and downs during this install, but the way it came together at the end we are so happy with and the customer is too.

Let us take a look at what we did for this customer and how we were able to give her a dream garden.

The job

The Base works

We originally planned for this job to take us 3 weeks. This job started like all jobs with a dig-off. However this one being so large, we used a mini digger. Along with the natural turf, we had to remove a patio, and carefully dig off around a built-in climbing frame. The dig-off took a little longer than we had anticipated it to, partly because the digger was late, but also because the weather wasn’t on our side.

We then proceeded to stone the entire garden, which went relatively well. At least until a week of sub-0 temperatures and snow came in. Luckily most of the stone was done, but it made the work a lot harder as we were now starting to install the patio areas and create the edging for the artificial grass.

Having solid ground means driving stakes into a large area takes a lot more time and effort to do. Nevertheless, we got the edging and paving installed only slightly behind schedule. With all things considered, we aren’t as far behind as we could be, the weather has for sure been an issue for us, but luckily not a huge hindrance.

Despite the challenges due to the conditions, we have still been able to make progress every day, thanks to our amazing install team. Looking at the progress so far, this is going to be one amazing install, just wait to see it at the end of this post.

The Patio

Now for the patios, yes plural. We are installing 3 patio areas in this garden. One main one out the door and wrapping to the front of the house. A block paving area that is going to be used for a garden room. Then one final area for an outdoor relaxation area is going to have tables chairs and maybe a firepit and a sofa. We also are huge fans of the rustic look of the stone this customer has used. It’s got a subtle grey colour with natural undulations through the stones helping to add a beautiful texture to the garden.

Over the 3 areas, we installed a total of 117 sqm of patio. Luckily was a smooth process and the team got it finished and looking stunning within 2 weeks.

The Grass

We are most known for our artificial grass. We have a page with our full install process if you’d like to read about that. For this job, the grass was like many of our others. We added grit sand, then installed a weed-proof membrane, and finally, we secured the grass to the edging, leaving it flush with the fencing and patio.

We also had one area where we had to cut a circle into the grass to ensure a neat finish around the base of a tree. We also had to be very careful to install the grass neatly around the climbing frame. We don’t want any cuts of grass showing, but it needs to be flush around the edge of the climbing frame posts.

The Finished Job

After finishing the job, the grass and the patio-we had to rebuild the climbing frame. Little did we know this was going to be one large task. With the levels changing, the climbing frame no longer fit correctly. So out came the woodworking tools. We had to shave down a lot off the frame, but after a while, we got it all to fit flush and lovely, just like it was before.

This project had been tough, but worthwhile and we think it looks amazing. The customer loves how it looks too. Now their children and new puppy can play outdoors with no worry of mud or mess in the house. The family can also enjoy their new patio areas for relaxing and spending time outdoors together. Especially during the summer months.
