Practice Area

Every good golfer knows it’s all in the short game. Yes, you may be able to drive to the green on a par three, but if your short game is bad, what’s the point? You’ll end up still getting par or worse. I fall victim to it, spending all my time at the range perfecting my drive distance and fixing my slice. Ultimately, it all comes down to the putt and being able to save strokes on it. So why don’t more golfers practice that short game? Well for me it’s a lack of opportunity, the driving range is so easily accessible, so when I get time to practice that’s where I head (it’s more fun too).

Now, what if the driving range also had a small putting area to get some practice in for the short game? I’m sure you’d use it right. I know I would, it’s the weakest part of most people’s game. This is why many driving ranges are opting to add putting areas too, Doing that with natural grass would require a lot of upkeep, and that’s just not worth it. There is a solution, however, artificial grass putting green.

We recently had the honour of installing one at our local range, both they and their patrons love it and have another tool to improve their game. With, all ranges should have or think about having one. After all, it’s all about making people better and making golf more accessible to people who can’t get to the course and do around every weekend. Let’s take a look at this install, we’ll look at the process of getting one at your range too. Or even a small one in your garden to practice.

Artificial Putting green installation

On the side of the range, Beeches had an area of grass, that was just sitting there waiting for something great to be done with it. The owner had the idea of installing a putting area so that golfers could not only work on their long game, but their short game too. They came to the highest-rated and most experienced putting green area installers in the area (Cheshire Artificial Grass).

They didn’t have a massive area, but enough to create something amazing that would not only serve a purpose but be fun and functional all in one. They want to offer the best for their customers, who wouldn’t… So, we got to planning.

Our idea was a 6-hole putting green that would be low maintenance, useable year-round and look good. We got to work and anticipated the job to take 5 days to complete. We ran over a bit, only 2.5 days, but that’s the cost to create something great. We never change the price unless you want something big, so the cost stays the same.

The process of installing something like this is as follows

Dig off

Hardcore and MOT

Whacker (to compact and make the area smooth and flat)

Final plan of the area and hole placement

Set the holes and surround them with concrete

Add the weed-proof membrane

Lay the golf grass and the fringe

Glue and drill everything in place

And we’re done, they also had a small fence around the area

All in all, this area turned out amazing and now The Beeches Driving Range has an extra area that can help golfers improve every part of their game. This is exactly what they and we wanted to achieve, and that’s exactly what happened. Just look at the images below of the finished putting green. This is sure to help their member the next time they head to the course and get some great scores and help to reduce their handicap.
